Almost everyday I am amazed that some people have the jobs that they do. In some instances, it's okay. Like when I go to Best Buy and the kid who's been selling TV's for a week wants to tell me what I should buy... Other times, like yesterday, it's a little more absurd than usual. Like Roger McNamee on Bloomberg yesterday... Here I am sitting on the couch and this guy is investing billions of dollars, scary! Video after the break -
Roger McNamee, Co-founder of Elevation, which claims to own 39% of Palm, and a Palm board member, was on Bloomberg yesterday. I think he was trying to sell the new Palm Pre. He did an awful job of that...
He starts out saying that he "loves" Apple computers. He's a huge fan of their products, and even OWNS an iPhone! Then, when asked who will buy the Pre, he responds "I don't know who will buy it". Huh? 39% of Palm doesn't know who their target market is, seriously?
Next he states that Sprint's 3G network is above and beyond all the others, because, wait for it.... It's older! He tried to make the claim that not only is AT&T's 3G network "brand new", but that it's got a lot of problems, that ATT will eventually work out..
We all know journalists are little more than a shell of a pretty face anymore, so I didn't expect the interviewer to press him on his accusations. Again, another instance of a job I could do better than the people who are currently doing it, but I couldn't even get a foot in the door.
My question would have went something like this:
Chad: Let me get this straight, Roger. You claim AT&T's 3G network has issues because it's brand new, and Sprints is superior because it's older?
Roger: Exactly
Chad: Why wouldn't a potential customer use that same logic for your new phone? Since it's new, it's obviously going to have problems and they should buy the iPhone because it's older and more mature...
Roger: Uhhhh, wait, uh, my iPhone is ringing, er, what was the question?
